How long have you been on the school board?
Since 2017
What made you decide to become a member of the school board?
My dad is a teacher, husband is a teacher and my sister is a teacher. I have been around educators my whole life. I was approached to be on the board when my dad was a teacher but I didn’t want the conflict of interest so when he retired, I thought I’d give it a try and do my part in impacting a positive education.
What is the biggest decision you have had to make while being on the school board? All decisions made by the board are important because they directly impact the students, our staff or the community.
What has been your favorite place to travel?
I enjoy traveling and the United States has so many interesting places. I really like historical places and loved Italy or Paris.
What is a memory that you have that instantly makes you smile?
Armour is my life long home and I have too many fun memories with friends and family to list just one
What’s your favorite food?
Anything that my husband Rod or my son cooks! Especially seafood!
Why did you choose to live in Armour, South Dakota?
I was born here, attended high school here, and always liked the sense of family and taking care of each other. I wanted my family to share in the great experiences that Armour has to offer.

How long have you been a part of the school board?
I have been on the school board for 7 years.
Are there different positions on the school board? Like different roles, jobs, etc.?
There are a few positions on the school board such as- The president, vice president, and committee members that serve on several different committees.
Why did you decide to join the school board in the first place?
I decided to join the school board for a couple different reasons; I wanted to do my part in ensuring that my kids, and all the kids in our school district, continued to have an amazing place to get a great education. I also feel that serving on the board is a great way to serve our community.
Do you have any hobbies, things that you do for fun?
My hobbies include playing and coaching basketball, camping, and spending time with my family.
Are you more of a summer or winter guy?
I might be the biggest wimp when it comes to heat, so I'd have to say I prefer winter. Winter also means basketball season! Though I do have to say, my favorite seasons are fall and spring.
Why did you decide to move to Armour?
We decided to move to Armour to help at Eden's family business- Krull's Market.
What do you do for work, and do you enjoy it?
Working at Krull's has been a blessing. I've gotten to know so many members of our great community through my time at the store. I also get to work with my wife everyday, which is truly the best part of my job.

How many years have you been on the school board?
I have been on the school board for 13 years.
What is your favorite thing to do on the school board?
My favorite thing to do on the board is to help make decisions that improve the school and make a better learning environment for the students. Since I've been on the board we have spent a lot of money on heating, air conditioning, and lighting. I know that the high school still has some problems, but we're doing the best we can with a 100 year old building.
Did you run against someone for the position of vice president or were you just elected?
I did not run against anyone for vice president, was just elected.
What is your favorite pastime?
My favorite past time this winter is working on restoring my trans am. In the summer I enjoy camping.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is hands down steak and potatoes.
What’s your favorite football team?
I really don't follow professional sports so my favorite football team has to be TDA.
Why did you choose Armour, SD?
For your last question, why Armour,I was born and raised on the farm east of town that I still live on today. There's no other place I would rather be.

How many years have you been on the school board?
This is my ninth year being on the board. I am also on the CORE board and Mid-Central Education Cooperative Board.
How long do the school board meetings last?
It all depends on the length of discussion needed for the topics and items on the agenda. I have been to a meeting that lasted for 15 minutes and I have been in meetings that have lasted for 5 hours.
What type of decisions do you guys make?
We approve the bills that need to be paid. We also approve the things that need to be purchased for the school. We hire the superintendent and negotiate the teacher's and administration's salaries.
Who is your favorite child or favorite flower?
My favorite flowers are daisies and my favorite child is Sparkles!
What is your favorite part about living on a farm?
The enjoyable quiet scenery. I have always enjoyed the life of having something different to do everyday.
What was the reason that you decided to send your kids to Armour?
We are in the Armour School District and thought it would be a good place for our children.
What's your favorite part about having twins?
The relationship between Dalton and Payton is a special bond. They have spent so much time together that they know each other too well. Watching them grow up together is my favorite part.

February 20-24th is School Board Recognition week! The Armour School District is joining districts across the state to thank school board members for their leadership and service to our local school district and community! This group of people is responsible for setting the vision and goals for the district and they strive to provide a quality education for our students. We are so thankful for a such a great group of people at the Armour School District!
Our Sophomore English class contacted our 7 school board members with several questions for them to answer. We will be spotlighting our 7 board members throughout the week.
Our first board member is Jodi Spaans! Thank you Jodi for all of your work and dedication to the Armour School District.
How many years have you been on the school board?
I joined the school board for the 2019-2020 school year. This is my fourth year on the board.
What position do you hold on the school board/what is your role?
I am a member of the board. I’m also on our Negotiating Committee and Joint Committee with TDA. And then I am our alternate for CORE.
Why did you want to join the school board?
I wanted to be a part of the school board so that I could have an active role in the well being of our school. I’ve enjoyed learning how a school “works”, assisting with setting policies/procedures and helping to make sure that our staff feels supported and that our kids are taken care of and safe.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my family, camping/boating, reading, crafting and scrapbooking. I also enjoy following my kids in their activities and following our athletic programs.
What is your favorite food?
Tacos!
What do you like about living in Armour?
I’m from a small town and I love being a part of a small town. I like knowing the members of our community and love that our community has so much to offer. I’m thankful that my kids can attend a small school where they feel safe, know all of their classmates, receive a solid education from teachers who truly care for them and have many opportunities available to them. I love the small town pride that comes with small town living.
What is your job/career title and what do you do?
I’m a Client Relations Generalist for One Source the Background Check Company (Omaha, NE). I work in our CR Department and assist with setting up new clients to run background checks, training clients on how to use our platform, assisting clients and applicants with their questions regarding the background check process, and a little bit of everything in between!
